So with Windows 7 being released in 2 weeks [the 22nd unless MS postpones it] how many people will be getting it relatively soon after its release and what version? Which of you if any took advantage of the preorder sale? How many are going to wait a while?

Personally I was going to wait because I'm (usually) happy with Vista but I had to take advantage of the preorder sale so I'll be getting Pro.
I'll probably get it on my laptop for college. I never had Vista, so I'm a little behind.
What version? I suppose it might help to know which version has what [MS/Wikipedia]. Are you sure that it is powerful enough? I would skip Vista if I where you. I don't know why people hate Vista. I haven't had too many problems with it on my computer.
I'm not getting it right away, but I'm sure that I'll need to stock our shop as well as read up on the repair issues.

Most likely people will flock to this to get rid of Vista. Only means plenty of opportunity for us!
Don't expect to be getting Windows 7 anytime soon, but down the road if it turns out to be a good OS I'll buy it... Smile
what about your version of choice?
Oops, Windows XP Home SP3... Partial Windows 98 theme... Smile

I don't have a laptop yet. I will need one for college, so I will get one with 7 on it.
im actually lookinh to get a free upgrade for my laptop. Vista is a hassle for playing games on, as for instance when i tryed to mod halo PC on vista it wouldnt open the modded maps, instead opening some other unmodded copy of the map from god knows where that is....
I'm sorry to burst your bubble but the free upgrade only applies towards those computers or copies bought after sometime this summer. They wouldn't dare give a way free upgrades to all those who ever bought a computer with Vista on it. It has to have said that it comes with a free upgrade.Sad

Vista buyers get free Windows 7 upgrade June 26 to October 22

It is out tomorrow!!!! My copy is on its way.Big Grin Also my wallet is a little lighter.
Wow my copy will be delivered today. 3 day delivery turned into 2 days.Smile It came from their (newegg's) memphis center which gets here faster. I remember when I bought the initial parts for my computer the case came out of Memphis while the rest came out from California & so I got the case I think two days before I got the rest of it.Confused
That's better than getting the guts with no case. At least for me. I'd be impatient enough to go ahead & run it without a case, fry it, & then get the case.

Cats have a way of getting into anything that is slightly fragile & important. The more so, the more determined.
Can't wait, Vista is really starting to annoy me lol

Spot on description of me right there. Big Grin

I don't particularly see the connection of cats with this topic, but yes, that is very true. I could tell you many stories about our many cats. Rolleyes

Towns, did you get it today? If so, how is it working for you? I'm guessing getting your copy explains your unusual absence from YIM. Tongue

I was thinking about it and I think I'm going to ask for a laptop for Christmas that I can use for college next year. I'm going to ask for one with 7 on it. Smile
No I haven't even opened it, but I did get it. I don't know when I'll get a chance to install it. I haven't been on YIM because I've been watching MASH now I hear food.Tongue
If I got it, I would drop everything to install it and play with it.
Well I hate installing OSs & I've been busy this afternoon. BTW you won't have to ask for one with 7, it will come it. All of them will.
I know but with older people and technology, I think it's safer to specify exactly (so they don't get something with Vista on it for some reason).

Besides, I just checked the requirements and I can't get it anyways because they don't post their required specs until late spring. Sad I know I could get one powerful enough to be supported, but I don't know what OS they will require. Probably 7 though.

1) They've published the requirments but basically if you computer runs vista very well it will run 7. Have you seen what computers they are selling these days?
2) Do you ever go by MS requirments? I don't because they post on what is required for the OS itself so you throw third party software on top of that & you've got yourself a slow computer if it barely meets the MS requirments.

What do you mostly do with your computer & what are its specs?
