So I've got 4 systems on my network, I've got 2 desktops, 1 laptop and 1 Xbox 360 that are all supposed to be sharing.
Keyword, supposed to.
I can access either of the desktops from anything else on the network, and I can access the internet, music, and picture files on my Xbox, but for some reason, the laptop won't share.
On my other computers, it doesn't even show my laptop on the network, I have no idea why, I am the admin on the laptop, and I can get to files on the network from my laptop, but nothing can even view the laptop.
Help?
P.s. The laptop is wireless, while everything else is connected via wires if that matters.
Knowing the operating systems involved might help. Have you tried a wired connection to the laptop? Do you have a third party firewall on the laptop? Have you tried disabling any fire wall on the laptop? Have you ever been able to share? If so what have you changed since then?
Have you gone through the process of enabling network sharing on the laptop?
These are all on the same "work group"?
As previously requested, knowing the OS would help.
Since you mentioned that the laptop is wireless, are you 100% certain that you are on your network, & not picking up a neighbors? You are on your broadcast coming from your router, yes?
** Question ** How is this computer programming? This topic should really be under networking.
I put it in here cuz I didn't know where else to put it, didn't see networking anywhere.
The laptop is Vista, and the other two are Windows XP.
Ive never been able to access the laptop on the network.
There are only two wireless networks in the area, mine and the neighbors, both password protected, I had to enter the password I made up to connect to it, so I'm pretty sure it's on our network.
Also, I can get files from my other computers while on my laptop, I just can't get into my laptop from my other computers.
Haven't tried the firewall thing, any ideas on how to do that?
Lastly, I'd prefer not to plug in wires, i use the laptop on a different floor than the router.
I think that covers everything =P
"page file". As in the Windows
paging file?
I'm pretty sure this isn't the file that he's trying to "share".

Where did he say that?
This thread has been moved to the appropriate forum section. Again, have you gone through the process of enabling network/folder sharing on the laptop? It's not done automatically just connecting to your network. It must be done on the laptop for it to share.
I've got Windows Vista Home Basic, does that mean I can't share any files?
(Also, thanks for moving it, and I'm sorry I didn't see Network section)
According to the "feature list" yes it isn't listed. I don't know if there are any hacks around that.

He didn't, you did.
He's trying to share files. You said that Vista Home Basic doesn't allow for sharing the page file. Those are two completely different things.
I guess I needed a comma. Happy?
OH! That's not how I read it at all. My bad.

Yes it is.

Funny how a simple comma can change the entire sentence...

Oh too true. I had no idea what he was taking about. I didn't think that he was talking about me.
So, MrOutCastX, do you have anymore questions on this issue?
Since there have been no further replies I'm assuming that the case is closed. If this isn't the case feel free to PM one of the staff.
