Hey, this is a thread to basically show off. Tell us your Spec and how much it cost then the person under can rate from 1-5 (5 being highest and 1 the lowest) then they can post there's, So I'll start lol

Well I finally got a new computer, so I can reply to this thread!
Toshiba Portege M780
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
Intel Core i7 CPU @2.67 GHz, 2 Cores, 4 Logic
4 GB RAM
Intel Graphics :/
Hitache 300GB HD 7200 RPM
Fingerprint Reader
It's a tablet, so I can use it by touching the screen. I don't find that part so very useful, but it was required by the engineering department.

You have to have a tablet pc for engineering? I wonder why. Any idea?

I heard something like the professors will have us project something down onto the screen in class. I don't know what that's about, but that's what my dad said he heard from somebody. So who knows if that's right.

Perhaps that means to connect your laptop to a projector for a presentation which you shouldn't a tablet pc for.

From what dad said, it was to actually project an image onto the screen via an external light source. What use that would be, I don't know.

My new computer is a late 2010 model 21.5" iMac with a 3.2 ghz core i3 processor dual core processor, 1 tb hard drive, 4 gb ddr3 memory, & ATI Radeon HD 5670 graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory.
04-21-2011, 12:04 AM
That's pretty good. You said it eats RAM like I eat cookies though, didn't you?
04-21-2011, 06:45 PM
Well I don't know about your cookie eating habits but yes it does consume a fair amount of resources. This increased after an install of vmware even when not running a virtual machine. On windows I know how to fine tune the OS to decrease memory consumption but with a mac I'm glad to even know where to check the memory. In addition to how much it uses it doesn't terminate a program when you close it but it keeps it running in the background so I have remember to hit command q to terminate a program. Right now only running yim and FF I'm using 2.84 gig. Running a virtual machine maxes it out so I'm thinking of buying more ram. I don't have to buy it from Apple and I can install it myself. I can add 4 more for $50. If I had bought it online and upgraded to 8 I would have had to pay Apple $200 more.

Usage is better after a reboot.

I had an Antec PSU that went out on me... Not only did it go out it took nearly all the components with it.

04-23-2011, 01:22 AM
What happened?
04-23-2011, 12:11 PM
well, as in that post i linked to, the capactitors bulge, and the ripple and voltage goes way out of spec. causing damage to sensitive stuff like HDDs, mobos, RAM, graphics card ,etc...
04-26-2011, 01:28 PM
To be more specific as to what happened with my PC.
PSU Failure
HDD Failure
MOBO Failure
RAM Failure
Graphics Failure
CD Failure
The only few hardware that survived was the CPU, and 1 stick of RAM.
