A relative brought me a computer that won't display anything. As soon as the computer is plugged in (surge protector switch is flipped) all of the fans turn on and the motherboard light turns on. I'm pretty sure that the hard drive does not spin. Note that this is before the power button is pressed.
I tested the switch and it's working, and now I'm going to test the CMOS battery. Any other ideas, other than the power supply?
Off the top of my head make sure everything is firmly seated/connected.
Do you get a beep? How do you know about the hard drive?
The first thing I did was make sure everything was seated properly.
It was indeed the CMOS battery. I had one in my drawer, and it's working fine now.
Thats great!
Sometimes you also have to call the company that made it!
But, may I ask.. Was this a new system?
If you have problems with a new system, it is a bad sign. I know..
We're here so you hopefully won't have to call the company. Hopefully, you can fix it yourself and save time and money on a diagnosis.
It was not a new system. It was about 4-5 years old I believe.
I see..
That would explain alot...
Thank you for answering my question so quickly.
This forum is amazing for that!
We do our best to do just that.
