Well then don't sell it.

So, GT4AWD, I've spent a good hour reading all the posts you've made and i have to say that you certainly are NOT a quitter! RWenger is NO quitter either
I've got a stock C32 with 120,000km (75,000 Miles), but it has been loved by it's previous (and original owner). I wish I knew more about mechanics, then I'd likely do some work on it myself...and not leave it to MB who charge a royal fortune. [Yes, had an air pump go bad and a $2,500 (aussie dollar) repair bill!] Once bitten, twice shy. I do have a problem that will need to be addressed. It's a belt-slipping noise that occurs at 1000-1,500 rpm...when I slow down. It's a chirping type sound...which I think is the idler pulley. I want to fix this outside of the MB service cost regime. Love the work you've done on your C32. They are a masterpiece car, a real wolf in sheeps' clothing. Cheers, a noob from Sydney, Australia.

Hi Positronic! Welcome to the forum...
Yes, I've been through a lot with this C32. Doing most of the work myself saved me a lot in the long run. As of now the brakes are about done. Going to need new rotors, and pads front/rear. As for the chirping sound if you believe it might be the idler pulley I suggest installed needswings pulley saver kit. Contact Rob and see if the C3 kit they made will work on stock pulleys. The supercharger belt drive pulley bearing tends to go bad as well. The C32 really is an amazing ride. No one excepts a four door sedan would have a 3.2lt v6 supercharged pushing up to 23 PSI with 185MM.

The chirping sound I was experiencing ended up being the water pump. Around $400 later I now have new pump installed. Did the work myself of course so that's just pump, coolant, and distilled water. By the time I figured it out the pump was ready to tear itself apart. Had coolant leakage through the wear valve, and a big pile of metal shavings sitting on the pump itself. Metal shavings also present in the coolant reservoir. The job wasn't too bad except for keeping track of the 22 bolts attached to the pump all different sizes and lengths. Also, a single bolt behind the 185MM crank required a ratcheting 8mm absolutely no room to work with.
The front rotors, and pads installed good. Working without any issues so far good braking power, and no vibration. Overall doing the brakes was a lot easiest than the water pump. C32 is up and running again after nearly two weeks of sitting...

Hey, it's been too long since we've talked. It's good to hear you're still going with your car.

A little fun after work...

Looks like you blew the car away, but how did you fare against the motorcycle? I couldn't tell from that angle.

The street bike pulled at least four car lengths by the quarter mile. The cobalt SS also pulled up, and slightly passed by the end... Still fun though even in last! FYI, the SS was running E85 fuel. With that in the C32 different results no doubt...

So, the C32 has been broke down for almost three weeks now. Thought at first the throttle body was defective, or the throttle position sensor on the peddle assembly. Ended up pulling off the intake, and found something stuck in the throttle body. Cleaned it out and the rough idle/hesitation/stalling went away upon ignition. Let the car run for a while until it was heated up. Was going to go for a test drive and it wouldn't start. Tried several times to start it again in the past few days no luck. Thinking now maybe the crank position sensor is bad. All I know is once it's up and running again I'm selling the car, and getting something new with lower miles. Thinking maybe a 6.0 GTO...

I'm assuming you still meant used after mentioning "lower miles".
It's a shame you have to sell the car, but it seems like it's for the best with all it's put you through even starting with driving it home.

Of course it ended up being worse case. Fuel pump is out. Shop wanted $3,000+ for new fuel tank with all internals and labor... Think I've sourced the pump separate as Mercedes only sells the entire tank now for $2,000. Probably looking at least $500 for this fix. This car is such a depressant. It should have came with a bottle of zoloft or something...

02-26-2012, 02:27 PM
That is disappointing.
Are you still planning to sell it?

Yes no doubt... Put the pump on order today. Shop owner my car is at says looking about 3 hours labor to replace. He goes by 85$ an hour, so already an hour in with the diagnose. So $340 plus $140 towing plus $280 for pump this fix is looking about $760 dollars...
02-28-2012, 01:13 AM
Ooh that's a lot. How much do you expect to be able to get for the car?
02-28-2012, 01:14 AM
We replaced the fuel pump on my Blazer years ago, in my drive way. It was a hell of a mess & might have been worth $700 or so dollars to not even have to fuss with it.
02-28-2012, 10:41 PM
Think the most I'll get from selling is 10k, but probably looking between 8-9k as a trade in. Agreed no2, but if he would of said anymore than 3 hours charge would be doing it myself.

Quote:I would drive off a cliff with it before I sold it...Obviously this wasn't the case. Had enough with the C32 after fuel pump failure ran me $1000. Sold the car today 132,000 miles as a trade in at dealership for $8000, and got a 2005 Pontiac GTO 6.0 with 45,000 miles. Has the LS2 Corvette 6.0 v8 motor with 400HP. Manual transmission 6 speed. Color is a mix between medium blue/grey. Went with the 3 year full coverage for peace of mind...

It's too bad you had to sell it after putting so much work into it. Kudos on the 3-year full coverage - good idea. Your new car looks pretty nice; good luck with it.

The GTO is leaking coolant from either the radiator or a connection on the radiator. The alternator is also making a noticeable whine sound. Common problem with the alternator. Have service appointment scheduled tomorrow. It's covered under a 15 day new purchase agreement. Few nights back ran into an E63 AMG Mercedes and got a quick run with it. 60-95MPH the AMG barely pulled ahead by quarter to half car length. Think this GTO is already quicker than my C32 with only an intake and exhaust modification.
