Per gb, your typical hard disc drive is way cheaper than a solid state drive. Also I believe that they are suppose to last longer. I would not use a SSD as a primary drive due to the demand placed on it. Basically a SSD is a large USB Drive.

SSD is a lot faster than HDD and there lies the main advantage. I believe SSD will eventually make HDD a thing of the past.

Yes, so do I. How would it wear out faster, townsbg? There are no moving parts in a SSD.

Just because there are no moving parts doesn't mean that there isn't anything to break.
USB drives wear out and that's what an SSD is.

No, but it does mean there's less to break.
Note though that electronics are becoming more portable. In a laptop (mainly what I'm referring to) or something portable, a HD is probably going to wear out faster than a SSD due to the bumps and drops. SSDs are more resistant to those due to no moving parts. Yes, desktops may keep hard drives for quite a while, but they're not going to last forever. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a hard drive the only type of component that hasn't undergone major improvements in design (not capacity and specs, but basic design) over the years? I think they're about due for an upgrade, and if it's not to flash storage, to something else.
