Apple announces ‘iPad’ tablet
Quote:After months of rampant speculation, Apple Wednesday announced a touchscreen tablet computer, the "iPad" for consumers who want to take their movies, TV shows, music, games and reading with them, be it around the house or on the go. Pricing starts at $499, and it should be available in 60 to 90 days.
It sounds like apple as decided to get into the tablet pc world. Perhaps to compete with supposedly MS up and coming similar gadget that I posted on previously. It looks to me like an oversized iphone/ipod Touch.
They took the iPod, changed the second vowel, and made it bigger.

Boy that would be crap.Big Grin

You might want to make one and patent it under a fake company that way, if they do it, you can sue then for copyright infringement.
Touchscreen toilet! Multitouch even! But there would be only one button: "Flush". Built in MP3 player anyone?

Slogan: iPeed in the iPotty!
I would have to say the IPotty won't be limited as you think Robert... This thing can do anything a functional computer could plus tons extra... Smile
What does our President of Marketing Relations have to say about that?Tongue
I know you are just joking, but I believe that Apple trade marked the lower case i before a word as their style.
So, you're saying I could invent the IPotty myself, and avoid trade mark issues by using the capitalized "I"... Smile

I think that legally as long as they haven't put a copyright on the name it is up for grabs and I doubt that case matters however I'm no patent lawyer.

I think that I would rather have an ipotty over this.Wink
I found this interesting.Confused
Quote:Digital rights controversy

With the release of the iPad the iPhone OS's closed and proprietary nature has garnered criticism, particularly by digital rights advocates such as the Electronic Frontier Foundation, computer engineer and activist Brewster Kahle, Internet-law specialist Jonathan Zittrain, and the Free Software Foundation who protested the iPad's introductory event and have targeted the iPad with their "Defective by Design" campaign. Competitor Microsoft, via a PR spokesman, has also criticized Apple's control over its platform.

At issue are restrictions imposed by the iPad's design, namely DRM intended to lock purchased media to Apple's platform, the development model (requiring a yearly subscription to develop for the iPad), the centralized approval process for apps, as well as Apple's general control and lockdown of the platform itself. Particularly at issue is the ability for Apple (or any other authority that can persuade Apple) to remotely disable or delete apps, media, or data on the iPad at will.

Critics assert that the iPad represents a "thoughtfully designed, deeply cynical thing", which may constitute a step in transforming computers from general-purpose machines into centrally-controlled media consumption devices. Moreover, many in the tech community have expressed concern that the locked-down iPad represents a growing trend in computing, particularly Apple's shift away from machines that hobbyists can "tinker with" and note the potential for such restrictions to stifle software innovation.

However, there are some outside of Apple who have voiced support for the iPad's closed model. Facebook developer Joe Hewitt, who had previously protested against Apple's control over its hardware as "horrible precedent", has subsequently argued the locked apps in the iPad are akin to Web applications and provide added security.
Since the iPad was released, has anyone talked to anyone who bought one? I am curious to see what they thought of it.
I watched one of the late night talk shows, and they had a guy on there showing it. Can you believe one of the limitations on it is there's no flash support?
I can, but that's another reason I don't like it.
There's no flash support on the iphone/ipod touch which like the lPap uses the iphone os. Actually, for whatever reason, Apple has refused to allow Flash to be installed.Huh
