I guess with all the hype about a Google OS I'd expect something more than a modifired ubuntu. With the progress ubuntu is having by itself I see little need to rebrand it. I know it has some different features planned, but its just like any other distro. A few features here and there but still the same thing. Either incredibly useless like linpus lite, or tailored towards the adventurous computer user like ubuntu and Fedora. Like you said, they are approaching with a successful head-start, but that's all I see this developing into as far as functionality. However, with Google marketing this, many people will catch on, but Google will get the credit, and for what? a rebranding and some extra features.

I would say the same thing with regards to Debian & then you also have Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Linux Mint that have all branched from Ubutnu.
Remember that all distributions are in reality is a software package built around the Linux Kernel. I believe Google OS is going to be more than just another Linux Distribution. It will (I believe) contain it's own Kernel & not the Linux Kernel thus making it it's own Operating System.
What in the world does this have to do with the topic at hand. When you reply to a thread please keep the post
relevant to the original post. In this case it would be more appropriate to create another thread because what you posted is an almost entirely separate topic. It isn't that hard to do. Now it would be a different story if you where saying something to the effect that the plugin is such a great idea or conversly how much you hate it (depending upon your stance).
As for Chrome OS according to
wikipedia it is a Unix like system (just like Linux, solaris, and to a certain extent mac os x). So essentially, as far as I'm concerned, they are just reinventing the wheel. Now that doesn't mean that later on down the line they won't create their own kernel but I doubt that it'll be entirely "new." They are probably just adding their own look and feel just like any other linux distribution so I agree with you.

You realize that those three OSes all use independent Kernels, so it certainly isn't reinventing the wheel.
They may use independent kernels but they share similarities so although some parts of it will be custom to the OS other parts won't which is why I inserted the part about it not being "new."
So maybe it isn't reinventing the wheel but it certainly is making it different.
Quote:The operating system is based on Linux...
Google OS is mainly based on Google Chrome browser to run Internet applications. It is designed to be a computer system very simple and user operations that can be used on many devices.
It is suppose to have a Chrome interface but that doesn't mean that it is based on Chrome. A browser isn't as complicated as an operating system so basing it on a browser isn't sufficient. Deep down it is based on Linux.
You've never booted up through DOS in your Google Chrome browser?

Google chrome OS will be Linux based OS Ubuntu. " This will be OS operating system, Web based application. It is open source application so easily available on Internet. This OS did not get any virus in it so chance of system fail is less.
