Sometimes turning on the computer from hibernation or logged off mode can create loud log on sounds. You might not be aware that your system is plugged in to an audio device and while logging in the start up sound creates a panic effect. I have the habit of experimenting and playing different start up sounds when Windows starts. This can be a bit embarrassing, especially if you are working in office or late at night and have set up Windows to log in automatically. If your computer is connected to a powerful audio system, a loud log on sound shakes the house.
