My brother was given a free desktop PC with a mini-tower design. We decided to move all of the components from the new PC over to an old full size tower with shot PSU. Had to in order to install the 256MB GDDR3 NVIDIA Ge Force 7600 GT overclocked by BFG. He talked me into buying a new graphics card, so I would give him that old 7600... Smile

It really didn't take that long to complete disassemble the new pc, the old pc, and place the new components into the old tower. Installed graphics card, and everything seemed to be fine. My brother recently told me there was a problem where his PC would shut down while playing video games, and there would be artifacts on the screen. Darker areas on the monitor would start to show green, and red dots. After that we connected the 4-pin power adapter which was not previously used on the motherboard while in the mini-tower.

That stopped the crashing problem, but he says there is still artifacts after playing games for a while. I'm thinking the graphics card could have been damage by my old PSU that fried. I had to replace a lot of stuff to get my computer running again!
It could have been the PSU. So some of the pixels stay green or red after playing the game?
I haven't had a chance to actually see the artifacts in person, so can't be too specific.
Graphics card might be shot, or could be simple overheating?
The graphics card was shot. It was from my old build. Power supply failed, and took out basically everything.
Yeah, happened to me before lol
Thankfully the only thing I've had a bad psu destroy was a hard drive.
I have been lucky enough to never have a PSU fail on me so far.
Really?, I've had 3 failed PSU's
I've had a computer in my house since I was around 6 years old, and no computer in this house has had a bad power supply. In fact, I've never even seen a computer with a bad power supply. I would say that's odd considering that we have a lot of power outages and our fair share of power surges around here. Our power supply is nowhere near consistent.
Well I suppose I was unlucky, although it depends on manufacturer
Uninstall all software programs that had to be activated at the time of installation. If my personal computer has an issue, I will troubleshoot it until it’s fixed, but I like doing it of course. Rebuilding your computer every so often keeps the startup and shutdown times low and wipes out any spyware, keyloggers and viruses that are on the machine.
Bad PSU and graphic card from old PC has created this problem of artifacts.Consult to a good computer repairer as he can understand problem faster than any other person. You have already tried a lot to make your PC work .GO for a service provider problem will sort out faster than earlier.
I think that he fixed the problem. The thread is from 2 years ago.
