RE: Best printer
I remember a commercial on tv not too long ago that specifically said (paraphrased) not to pay more for ink. If its the cost of the ink I suppose that you could go to a store, look up the best price, and then match that too a model. As for efficient usage, I don't know what to tell you on that.

RE: Best printer
Kodak recently released an all-in-one printer that is supposed to use 50% less ink than other traditional printers. However, it does have a printer head that requires replacement after a certain amount of uses. That, along with new ink developed using nano-technology has resulted in the ink savings... Smile

RE: Best printer
That must be the one that I remembered however GT the article says that the head doesn't need replacement. Do you know something else about it?

That sure is an expensive printer though.

RE: Best printer
Remember that depending on the printer you buy, the ink for laser printers can be expensive.

RE: Best printer
yeah i know but if i can print like 10,000 pages or whatever it would be worth the price (i just made that number up idk if it'll print 10,000 pages or whatever) but the printer i have now i think only does like 200 pages before i have to replace the ink

RE: Best printer
You also need to include maintenance (parts replacements), the cost of the cartridges, & the cost of the printer into to your decision. Laser printer are much more complicated and therefore more expensive although not necessarily any better. Laser printers are designed for high volume and high usage but typically not for quality. In fact when it comes to color printing your best bet are your typical ink jet printers. The cartridges may last longer but that is because they have more ink. They also are more expensive because some of the processing is done in them therefore they have more than just ink in them. If you don't print that much I wouldn't buy one. If you don't print enough the ink could dry out and you've wasted a lot of money. Look up the price of the printer, the price of the cartridges, and the price of the maintenance kits with their required frequency of use before you make a decision.

In your example if the price of the cartridge is more than 5 times the price of an ink cartridge then you are spending more money for what, the frequency of replacement?

Example (based upon your numbers):
1 laser cartridge = 10000 pages, cost = $150
1 ink jet cartridge = 200 pages, cost = $25
--The cost of the cartridges per 10000 pages = $125

RESEARCH

Also as expensive/complicated as b&w laser printers are the color ones are even more so and each page will have to go through at least 4 times for a color print.

Check your math there Towns. 10,000 divided by 200 is 50, times 25 is $1250 for the inkjet cartridges per 10,000 pages.

RE: Best printer
Has anyone ever though about that kodak printer mentioned previously. I believe that cartridges are 10 B&W, 15 color. I read a good review about it too. I think through the end of the year you get 50 off if you bring in a printer for recycling. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...1257400801
