So I've recently connected my TV to my laptop, so I can use my TV a second monitor. I like to play movies and things from my laptop on my TV, so I thought I could play games on the laptop and watch movies on my TV.

But I can't, whenever I play a full screen game, the game comes up on my laptop screen and my TV just goes black. Is there anyway around this? So I can watch a movie on my TV and play a fullscreen game on my laptop screen

The TV 'just goes' black. Is it safe to assume there was an image there prior to going full screen? How are you attaching to the TV? Svideo, HD, something else?

Since you are on a laptop can you toggle through the different displays? Use the function key along with (usually) f4 or f5, the key should look like a mini monitor.

Also, assuming that you are running Windows, & the TV is truly being attached to the laptop as a 2nd monitor, does it show as active under display? (through control panel, or right click on desktop -> display)

When I've got them connected, it shows the same backround as my laptop screen, but usually I've got a movie going while they're connected too.

I'm not sure what you mean by the different displays, the f4 and f5 don't do anything as far as I can tell.

Yes my TV is under my display, it's got my Laptop screen as '1' and the TV as '2'

They are connected via an S-Video out on my laptop with a S-Video to RCA converter and then to the RCA jacks on my TV.
I hope that covers everything.

There is probably a setting in your laptop's graphics card utility app - go to Control Panel - Display - Settings - Advanced, select the tab specific to your graphics adapter and have a look around. In the past I was getting this problem when playing video on the second monitor. There was a setting about playing video in full screen on the lappy screen.

Not sure when I overlooked this thread, but I know what your problem is. The video game is set on a screen resolution that the television doesn't support.
