Social Media WebSites & Internet Interaction
I'll admit, I'm a little older. Just like any thing else in life, this has it's advantages & disadvantages. Lately I've been trying (really hard) to get on the Web 2.0 social media scene & push some of our products, but I'm finding myself out of touch. So I'm hoping that maybe you FaceBook users & Twitterers can help me out a little Smile

Recently FaceBook changed fan pages to "like" pages. I have one of these setup for my Yard Sales Galore website. The problem that I am having is, I'm not sure why anyone would want to use this thing. What makes someone want to be a fan? What does one expect to find on a fan page? What is my fan page missing? What can bring in more fans &/or give them a better fan experience on our FaceBook page? I've been looking into FBML code, but for the life of me I can't see where to implement it! Do I type this somewhere, or is it something I click to install on the page? I'm lost!

As for Twitter, what makes you want to follow someone? Are their tweets insightful? Humorous? Personal? What should I expect others to be expecting when posting Tweets?

Thank you Smile

RE: Social Media WebSites & Internet Interaction
I don't know all that much about running groups/fan pages on Facebook as I've never made one. I was going to suggest that you link to your group from your website, but I saw that you already have. Maybe you could trade links with another page on FB related to yard sales so that you could both receive more traffic.

As for Twitter, I'll follow someone if they amuse me, inform me, or are friends. Sometimes I'll follow them if I think they'll follow me back. I have a Senator from VA, Mark Warner, following me just because I noticed that he follows almost anyone who follows him. I guess he wants to appear to pay attention to what his constituents are saying.

I would say tweet when you feel like it and tweet what you feel like posting. I would much rather follow a unique account where the person actually has a good personality than follow someone who posts random stuff with an API.
