I'm trying to use a Parallel cable on a serial adapter for using an external modem.

a serial cable db9 -> db25,
a parallel cable db25 -> db25 through db25 -> db9 converter

However, I am unable to send AT commands to the modem using the adapter & perfectly using the serial cable. Do I need a null modem adapter between the parallel cable & serial converter?
