RE: System Corrupted
Well what are the common factors between the 2 systems? The hard drive and any software that they put on the system. Perhaps the image was corrupt. I would be less suspicious that it is the OS if it had been a recent reinstall each time without any problems. I'm still suspicious of the encryption software. I'm assuming that it is required. However I've never dealt with fully encrypted system drives so I don't know what to tell you there. But if you've gone this long without any other problems perhaps it wasn't that. I think that it is a very good idea to backup your files regularly just as long as you are allowed to. I think that it's a good sign that it has yet to corrupt again. Does anyone else have any thoughts?

RE: System Corrupted
Yes I think it's good that it hasn't crashed yet and I'm sure that my manager is pleased because he can't afford for us to lose work time. Yes the encryption is required not only by my employer but also one of our accounts. I'd already proved that I had installed it and I didn't have to again but if we had gotten audited and it wasn't encrypted I'm sure I could have been fired.
Anyway it makes me feel better that it has even frozen without the system corrupting however I still don't trust it so I make backups weekly.

RE: System Corrupted
Guess what...the system corrupted AGAIN!!!
![]() I was trying to do several things at once & suddenly the system slowed down and the only thing that was working was the mouse. So I decided just to turn it off and upon boot up I got the same message that hal.dll is corrupt or missing. Like before the tech tried to replace the file with a known good copy yet we got the same error so he thinks that the problem must be with something that is looking for it. So he'll be re-imaging it tomorrow. Overall I'll lose almost 2 days. Unfortunately unlike before we couldn't use another computer to recover the files because windows wouldn't open up the docs & settings folder (something about it being corrupt). Last I knew the tech was running a program to try & recover the files. Good thing that I've been backing up weekly to an external drive.![]() I don't know what is going on with that thing but it is really making me mad. I'm wondering if it is the hdd because earlier in the week I got a BSOD with the error code kernal_data_inpage_data. It listed a driver and it looked like it had something to do with a hard drive driver. Unfortunately I didn't write the file down. I researched the error to find that it could be related to the drive but I never scanned the drive for errors. The tech is going to scan the drive. Boy this is such a mess. I'm so frustrated.

RE: System Corrupted
I found out today that the hard drive is bad.
The tech said that it might have been going bad slowly & causing the previous issues. He was able to get everything off of it but I don't know if it is all usable. They did copy from my computer to another and from that one to my external drive so perhaps there isn't a problem.

RE: System Corrupted
I take it then that they are replacing the hard drive so perhaps your problem will go with it (knock on wood).
